I never got to meet Jack personally but he was a politician with whom I felt a connection. Although he sometimes got caught up in repeating talking points, he still spoke plainly and had obvious compassion for the working class, the sick, the elderly and those whose voices were drowned out by the din of political messages financed by big money. It brought a tear to my eye to read his last message.
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world. – Jack Layton
