Working to create a relaxed and soft look can be challenging but having a great location always helps. This claw-foot tub in an old apartment really set the stage for creating this image. The softness of her expression and lightness of her skin contrast beautifully against the cracked textures of the tub and walls.
Last year I was commissioned by Queen’s University for a portrait series of recent Business School graduates for their marketing materials. This environmental portrait of Sarah Williams at the 4th Ave Lulu Lemon location is now making the rounds in various print publications. Sarah was a great subject with an inspiring story of personal...
This is Howard Berger, Oscar winner for Best Achievement in Makeup for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005). He was in town this week giving workshops on special effects at Blanche MacDonald Centre, covering stuff like 3rd degree cuts and other gory effects. He’s a big bear of a man,...
The Star Wars franchise has been so badly polluted and plundered that Darth Vader references now make me feel more ill than nostalgic. But last week’s SuperBowl ad for VW and this recent bodypainting project actually made me laugh for a change. I still think George Lucas needs to go away but at least the...
The Rio Theatre recently installed a 3D movie projector, adding yet another dimension to this fully restored theatre and state-of-the-art multi-media event space. Corrine Lea, sexually aggressive woman and part owner of the theatre, was kind enough to let us shoot in there on a moment’s notice for this fun image from my latest photo...
This is my awesome assistant Rhoddy sitting in for my subjects the Purrfessor & Burgundy Brixx. You can see the results of this photo shoot and read my article on the plight of Vancouver Kitty Nights on Granville Magazine.
Pair Bistro is a lovely little space in Point Grey that focuses exclusively on locally harvested products from the open waters, vineyards and farms within British Columbia. Janis was a little less camera shy than her husband Todd, so she posed for this WestEnder editorial.
The was an option for my cover shoot with former MLA Lorne Mayencourt for Yaletown Magazine. Shooting in this relatively clean alley was serendipitious since I learned during the shoot that Lorne was spearheading a law to put locks on all city dumpsters to curb the mess created by careless dumpster divers.
One evening I noticed this amazing stretch of clouds moving in and knew the sunset was going to be just amazing so I called my friend/model to do a few test shots. While shooting in the park some more friends happened by and I corralled them into the shot too. I know that jumping shots...
Although she has shut down her DJ school, the Rhythm Institute, the notorious DJ Leanne continues her passion for mixing and teaching with the Tom Lee Music Academy, showing students the ropes in vinyl & CD mixing across a range of genres. Here she is posing for the ‘Coffee Crazy’ editorial in the WestEnder.
Marie Noelle survived the tsunami in Thailand. She told me about how she was travelling on a bus when the wave hit and killed everyone aboard. Somehow she managed to escape, was swept away and washed up kilometers away. This was her secret story as a participant in France’s third season of the reality program...
It was a cool and cloudy day, perfect for outdoor portraits. A 42″ reflector just off camera gave a lovely catch light and filled the shadows nicely. A shallow depth of field also allowed me to shoot against some unlikely backgrounds and walls.
