Gil Yaron for Vancity Board of Directors: anatomy of an election campaign

with one comment

Money is a very personal subject and banking is a boring subject. But the ethics of banking has been front and centre in our social consciousness as phrases like “too big to fail” and “the ninety nine percent” fill headlines and conversations around the world.

It seemed like perfect timing, when I was approached to work on Gil Yaron’s election video campaign and make my own contribution to this conversation.

Working in tandem with writer and strategist Hilary Henegar, we wanted a message that spoke to these frustrations but educated and empowered viewers. This required a campaign that avoided chanted dogma, pointed to real solutions and provided content in easily digested and sharable chunks.

We came up with this series of short videos that emphasized success and the value of social investing. Interviewing community and business leaders, we condensed their story with relevant visuals and tied that into the values that Gil holds himself.

These videos were shared through each organization’s network to maximize exposure and relevance to the conversations in which their own brands participate.

If these video’s speak to you, I hope you’ll consider moving your money to a credit union and participate in social investment within your own community.

This an inspiring little talk by Johnathon Vaughn Strebly on some of his personal work in The Tattoo Project.

Short film project

Here is a behind-the-scenes shot from a digital short I assisted >>AREML in shooting last weekend. It stars the vivacious and voluptuous Lydia DeCarlo as a femme fatale getting ready for a night on the town. Watch part two to see how she ends the evening as a hot mess, smoking and drinking vodka straight from the bottle.

Absolutely Cuckoo by Magnetic Fields

without comments

As a creative exercise I decided to branch out into video. I’m dating myself but this is the first time I’ve edited video since the days of magnetic tape. I really have to marvel again at the evolution of tools that are so widely available these days.

The little ditty is by Magnetic Fields, which inspired this toy robot and monster love story.
